| Profile and preference information | Selected focus areas, onboarding status, app settings, notification preferences, and biometric re-entry preferences. |

| Device and technical information | Device type, operating system, app state needed to restore your experience, and push notification token if notifications are enabled. |
| Support and communications information | Information you send to us when contacting support. |
How we collect information
We collect information in the following ways.
| Source | Description |
|---|---|
| Directly from you | When you sign in, set your name, select your focus areas, enable features, contact support, or manage account settings. |
| Automatically through the Services | When the app restores your session, saves your preferences, enforces usage limits, or records subscription and entitlement status. |
| From third-party providers | From authentication providers, app-store subscription infrastructure, and technical providers that help us operate notifications and app functionality. |
How we use information
We use personal information to operate and improve the Services, authenticate users, personalize the feed, restore user sessions, maintain user preferences, manage subscriptions, enforce free and paid access rules, support push notifications, respond to support requests, protect the security of the Services, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements.
We may also use information in aggregated or de-identified form for internal analysis, product improvement, and business operations where permitted by law.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information in the ordinary sense of exchanging it for money. We also do not currently rely on member or subscriber personal data for marketing-campaign targeting based on the information you provided to us.
We may share information only as needed in the following circumstances:
| Recipient | Why information may be shared |
|---|---|
| Authentication providers | To allow you to sign in and maintain your account. |
| Subscription and payment infrastructure | To validate, restore, and manage paid subscription entitlements processed through app-store channels. |
| Notification and technical infrastructure providers | To support push notifications and related technical delivery functions. |
| Hosting, database, and cloud service providers | To store and process information needed to operate the Services. |
| Professional advisors or legal authorities | When reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce rights, investigate misuse, or respond to lawful requests. |
| Business transaction counterparties | If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction. |
Cookies, local storage, and similar technologies
The Services use secure storage, app storage, cookies where applicable, and similar technical mechanisms to keep you signed in, remember preferences, restore app state, and operate core product features. These technologies are used for functional and operational purposes, including authentication, onboarding recovery, notification settings, saved content, and access-control enforcement.
Notifications and device features
If you enable notifications, we may store and process your push token to send product notifications. If you disable notifications or delete your account, we may clear the associated push token from our active systems.
If you enable biometric or device-based re-entry, authentication is handled through your device operating system. We do not receive or store your biometric template itself.
Subscriptions and access controls
Data Signal offers both free and paid access. We use subscription and entitlement information to determine whether you have premium access and usage information to enforce article or drilldown limits for free users.
Subscription purchases are processed through applicable app-store infrastructure. Refunds, cancellations, billing disputes, and subscription management outside the Services are governed by the relevant app-store rules. Data Signal does not offer separate refunds or cancellations outside standard App Store handling.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the Services, maintain business records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Data Signal’s account-deletion design is intended to clear account access, push-token associations, and subscription linkage while preserving certain meter and history records. Our retention practices may therefore include keeping limited historical usage records after account deletion where reasonably necessary for service integrity, recordkeeping, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
Account deletion and your choices
You may be able to update certain profile information, manage notifications, sign out, restore purchases, or request account deletion through the Services.
You may also contact us at support@thedatasignal.io to request access, correction, or deletion, subject to applicable law and our need to verify your request.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and you use the Services at your own risk.
Children and age eligibility
The Services are not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child where parental consent was required and not obtained, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information.
